Harley® Super Chefs!

Harley® Super Chefs!

When FoodForward SA approached our dealership with a proposal to partner for a fundraiser, we jumped at the opportunity! Did you know that 1/3 of all food produced in South Africa goes to landfills while more than 14 million people go hungry? It’s shocking statistics like these that really moved us to put together an event unlike any other that we’ve hosted before.

Aptly named “Harley® Super Chefs”, we encouraged chapters, clubs and individuals within our riding community to sign up with a R1000 donation in order to enter a team into this cooking competition. Each team received a mystery box of 4 ingredients (with one of them being a real dark horse), had selected pantry items to share among themselves and a gas stove to cook on. That’s it!

Well done to the 9 teams that competed:

  • Club of Cape Town
  • H.O.G.® Tyger Valley
  • The A Team
  • NAFI’s
  • H.O.G.® Breede River
  • Rouve’s Team
  • FoodForward SA
  • Willowbridge Shopping Centre
  • Free Chapter Cape Town

These teams opened their hearts and wallets to participate, and each one of them came up with an incredible meal to present to the judges! Thank you to our wonderful judges for making the time to enjoy the day with us: Jenny Morris, Africa Melane and Henning Pretorius. Well done to Rouve’s Team for being crowned Harley® Super Chefs of the event! Second runner’s up were H.O.G.® Breede River, with Willowbridge Centre coming in third place.

Having to work with ingredients such as white chocolate, marshmallows and jelly tots and incorporate them into a savoury main meal is no small feat! While the cooking teams were hard at work, our dealership team including Vasti and Sanette from Tyger Valley Chapter were facilitating cash donations for FoodForward SA.

A special thank-you to Willowbridge Centre for allowing us to block off the parking in front of our dealership as well as sending a team to compete in the competition. More special thanks to Pick n Pay in Willowbridge Centre for sponsoring 4 mystery boxes and to Food Lover’s Market Willowbridge for sponsoring all the pantry items! Goji Spa inside Willowbridge sponsored 6 vouchers for prizes and the Cape Town Gin Companygave us 3 beautiful gin hampers as well! Thank you to the sponsors who helped with infrastructure on the day, John Lucas and Crispin Sonn as well as Tentickle Stretch Tents for giving us a good deal on our tent.

Last but not least, thank you to each and every person that came through on the day to enjoy the fundraiser and give to FoodForward SA. The proceeds raised enough money to provide for 19,000 meals!
